Embellishment is a decorative detail or feature added to something to make it more attractive.
I have always been fascinated by embellishments on garments, particularly those I have seen on wedding gowns and those worn by celebrities and superstars. And I often wondered how long it would take for the person to complete such elaborate designs.
Although I still like the glitter and shine of those embellishments, I very much prefer to have simple designs on my clothes because I believe in "less is more".
I have bought quite a few items with embellishments that I liked and kept them really well because I understood the painstaking process one had to go through to complete a design, however simple it might be.
The idea of embellishing my own clothes started 3 years ago, when I realised that most of the festive clothes I bought were last minute, had simple printed motifs and not exclusive i.e. the same dress came in different sizes.
Furthermore, I couldn't get myself to buy the ones with elaborate embellishments because most of the clothes that were available for festive seasons were too glamorous for me to wear.
Also, I wanted my clothes to be different from the same batch of printed motifs because I could imagine myself out one day and stumbled upon someone who would be wearing the same clothing as me. Wouldn't it be awkward to the both of us?
Believe me it would because I have seen it happen to a couple of colleagues at work. They both bought the same item from the same store, but on separate occasions, and yet decided to wear that same item on that very same day!
Because of all that, I decided it was about time I designed and embellish my own clothes.
