Animama's Fashion Reconstruction is ushering in the new year with a classic sleeveless blue velvet lbd which was bought in Indonesia in late 90s.
At first, I was not sure how I was going to transform this lbd into a long dress but my sister gave me an idea. She suggested to me a fabric which she no longer needed and offered it at a very nice price that I could not resist.
Not only do the floral motifs and colour combination complement very well with the blue velvet, the fabric had enough yardage that would fit my purpose.
I only decided on the design after I dismantled the lbd to pieces. Since it was after all, an old dress, I had to be extra careful not to rip any parts, especially near the arm holes. Looking at the pieces I have gathered together, I finally decided on a semi gothic-style dress.
I also had some remnant blue velvet fabric that would accentuate the gothic theme further. I was hoping to acquire more blue velvet fabric from my sister but that did not materialise. So I had to make do with whatever fabric I had at hand.
Like my previous projects, this fashion reconstruction requires precision when it comes to cutting out the patterns because I cannot afford to make any mistake. Just one wrong move of the scissors, would cause a major disaster.
Although, I managed to use every bit of the material to good use, I was not really satisfied with how the sleeves turned out. Thankfully, I have remnants that I could use to improve the look.
All in all, it took me less than a week to complete this project. And I must say... it turned out even better than I imagined.
So without further ado, here's the end result...
I do not think I will ever be tired of fashion reconstruction projects because I always look forward to the ending, the final reveal ~ the final product. And the best part about it is ~ I get to wear them dresses first.
Who could tell that this was a cut-and-paste project, if I had not disclosed the facts?
I can proudly say that you cannot find this item anywhere. 💃🐒👌🙋
